Order Notes instead of Custom Fields
Waka Ahmed
Hello again,
As custom fields take up more database space, with the information regarding the Opayo transaction, is it right in me thinking this information can simply be presented as a note in the order, to reduce data storage and thus increase efficiency and performance?

Thank you for reaching out again with your thoughtful suggestion regarding the management of Opayo transaction details.
Your idea of displaying these details as a note in the order to reduce database storage is intriguing. However, it's important to note that several of our key features, including the Traffic Light System (TLS) and our refund processing functionality, rely on data stored in the order metadata. This data is crucial for the seamless operation of these features. With the implementation of WooCommerce's High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS), we aim to optimise data management efficiency while ensuring that these critical features function effectively.
While we continuously strive to optimise our software's efficiency and performance, we also need to ensure that essential functionalities, like the TLS and refund processing, have access to the necessary data to function effectively. Therefore, any adjustments to how we store transaction details must be approached with careful consideration of these dependencies.
We appreciate your understanding in this matter and your eagerness to improve our plugin. Please be assured that we are always exploring ways to enhance our plugin's performance while maintaining the integrity and functionality of our plugins. In our next major plugin update, we'll review and monitor to remove unnecessary data points. However, as new features are released that require data stored in the metadata, some may need to be added back.
Your feedback is highly valued, and we encourage you to continue sharing your insights with us.
Thank you for your continued support.
